Bail Bonds

Blackshear Bail Bonds provides surety bonds throughout the state of Colorado.  Surety bonds are written for individuals who have been accused of and arrested for an alleged crime.  The amount of the bond depends on the alleged crime and the person's criminal history.

Surety bail agents post a bond with the court guaranteeing that a person will appear in court each and every time as instructed.  The person is then released into the custody of the surety agent.  The agent will obtain much personal information about the person and their indemnitor so they can keep track of the person.   For providing this guarantee, the agent is paid a fee by the bondee or their indemnitor.  The bondee or indemnitor is also required to post some form of collateral with the surety agent to guarantee the bond.  The type and amount of collateral will depend on the size of the bond, the alleged crime, and the person's history.  A person who has a history of missing their court appearances will have a more difficult time getting a bond and/or unless the collateral is significant.  If the person fails to appear in court, the court notifies the agent that the bond is in forfeiture.  When this happens, the agent is responsible for either finding the person and surrendering them to the court or the jail, or paying the full amount of the bond.  This is when the indemnitor and collateral becomes especially important.  These are what pay the bond and/or the agent's costs to find and re-arrest the skip.

Surety agents in Colorado are not allowed to post cash bonds.  If you have a cash bond, you or someone acting on your behalf, will have to deposit the full amount of the bond "in cash" with the court to obtain your release.
